Dr. Su Shin
Su Shin received her Ph.D. in the Department of Human Sciences at The Ohio State University in August 2016, with minors in Economics and Statistics: Data Analysis. She completed her M.A. and B.A. in the Department of Consumer Studies at Seoul National University. In August 2016 she joined the faculty of the University of Alabama as an assistant professor.
Research interests
Shin’s current research focuses on health economics and household investment choices. In her research in health economics, she studies the role of information about Alzheimer’s disease and of informal care provided by family members on the elderly’s financial (e.g., buying long-term care insurance) and economics decisions (e.g., engaging in healthy behaviors). Her research on household investment decisions includes studies of the effects of financial planners on various investment decisions and outcomes and analysis of household portfolio choices.
She has published her papers in American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, Economic Letters, The Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, Journal of Youth Studies, and Journal of Family and Economic Issues.
